June has been such a sweet, sunny month here in the UK. Berries and cherries are ripe and delicious, the shorts are out, my nails are painted and i'm stripy with sunburn too after one too many too-hasty an application! Early summer is often when the sunshine is warmest so we have been doing our darnedest to get out and enjoy it. The barbecue has been out on multiple occasions now, we've been beaching, barbecuing and picnicking a lot too.
Montes & Clark got in touch and asked me to style some of their gorgeous colourful homewares into a picnic shoot so Dave and I had the perfect excuse to have a lavish lunch time picnic date in the park down the road. It was lovely to sneak off together in the middle of the day, with Auden of course.
Hardy picnic recipe's
I made a rice salad by frying 1 red onion and 3 cloves of garlic then adding strips of chorizo at the end. Once cooked, I stirred it with some cooked brown rice, grated carrot and flaked almonds. I whipped up a dressing with sumac, lemon, salt, pepper and olive oil and drizzled it over then topped with crumbled feta. It was really really good. We served it with some flat bread, olives and hummous too. It took me about 20 mins to whip up and pack in my basket. Simple, filling and delicious. What are your favourite (hardy!) picnic recipe's?
I have had some rather sorry disasters in the past- green salads wilting to smelly mush, buttercream cake icing melting and souring, brown guacamole, spilled oil from olives staining everyones clothes, forgotten forks, forgotton water.... the list goes on! I love hearing peoples tried and tested winning recipe's, please share your best links or ideas below (or your disasters, to make me feel better!)
They work directly with women-led cooperatives in Mexico, and where cooperatives are not yet established they buy directly from individual women with a fair trade price. The fabric, for example is woven on a pedal loom by a women’s cooperative in Chiapas, and the grass mats are also hand made. I love so much in the shop, look at their sweet market bags and pompoms!
This is a proud collaborative blog post. I love this company!
